There are parts which are poignant and parts that are laugh-out-loud funny. The local dialect is a wonder in itself and it blends well with the narrative, becoming an obvious part of it.
To dwell too long over the fact that he was quite young when he wrote it is to invite worthlessness and self-doubt. I think I have read the best book by an Indian writer so far.
